Simple + Combining = Scombining

Being a young (22) entrepreneur, I am constantly coming up with ideas of how to create excellent services for students. Tons and tons of ideas coming into and out of my head, most aren’t that good, but some are.

My concept for “Scombining” has saved me a lot of time when focusing on what ideas would work and which wouldn’t. I like to “Scombine” when I think of really “simple” ideas and “combine” them with something that might’ve been done before or something that is completely new that I just made up in my mind, creating something completely original.

Sam Walton, the founder of Walmart — in my opinion — did a great deal of scombining when he took the simple idea of selling cheap items in large masses and combined that idea with pre-existing models that he carefully studied such as Price Club. The man would take a tape recorder with him and take notes while walking around other discount shops. He was able to create something completely new and original by the simple process of scombining.

It is my hope, that we students start creating in this world. There are so many things to create that haven’t even been thought of yet. Let’s start thinking on a level of creating simple services, and possible scombining them with something already out there, making something your own. Think big, but start small and grow.

All too often, students feel that “they are too young” or “I’d rather just work for somebody my whole life” than to take a risk by starting their own business. We should be taking advantage of our youth (we don’t have many bills to pay, most of us still live at home or in college dorms, we aren’t stuck in serious jobs, etc..).

So let’s get out there and create!
