Facebook vs. MySpace
To be honest, I signed up to MySpace about 2 years ago and have never formally set up my own page ’til this day. The first time I attempted to, I was was turned off by the many features that MySpace offered to change around my actual profile. There were features to add music, add video, and to add different colors all over the place, it just looked very messy to me. I felt that things were placed all over the place and it was just an overkill to me.
When Facebook began offering services to my school (Pace University) on October 27 2004, I immediately signed up for an account. I fell in love with the simple blue and gray design that had the very easy-to-use navigation bar. The whole experience was easy and fun as I jumped around from college friend to old highschool friends. Before Facebook, I can’t recall a social networking site that allowed me to only connect to college buddies — it was great!
I guess that I’m not surprised to hear people still talking about MySpace, though. MySpace definitely deserves credit because they have attracted millions of loyal users, even people who are currently using Facebook. It looks as though Facebook and MySpace can co-exist, for now. However, if I were to put my money on a winner in the end, it would be on Facebook. I believe that they are just making things easier and easier as the MySpaces pages continue to get more cluttered and cluttered.
I asked some young web 2.0 entreprenurs that currently use both services and this is what I got:
What do you think about Facebook vs. MySpace?
With myspace you can customize your profile, you can add music, its open to the general public ,the home admin page is more user friendly, and i personally like the notifications for comments, friend, requests better.
Dale Tan, a designer, said the following: ” myspace is open to anyone, which is a pro for them, but myspace is poorly designed (user interface is piss poor) and very confusing. BUT, you are able to style it as well, which is another pro. With facebook you’re automatically linked to your school and people in it. Con: you have to have a valid .edu email to register, but that also limits users.
Which is better? You decide.

Mypsace sucks! Way too personal. There are spaces where you are supposed to put your income status as well as your marital status. I had one for about a year before I decided it was too personal. And kind of pointless. Your friends leave comments like “You are such a sweet girl” or something and that’s it. Or they put those big glitters on there that take up a lot of space. It’s good for finding music and bands and being able to listen to music on there. That’s all I have to say about that. I deleted mine and haven’t missed it too much at all.
