Academic Advisors can be the DEVIL
Ok, so I graduated from college a semester early, this past January. But I have to tell you, when it came down to actually registering to graduate, it took an arm and a leg to do so. All of a suddend I had people in the graduation office telling me that I took too many classes, I took the wrong classes, or that I’d have to do this and that. It was amazing to me, because for the past 3 years I’ve been doing exactly what my advisors had told me to do… It must’ve taken weeks to get everything perfectly straightened out. I was soo frustrated.
Please, when you register for your classes each semester, go above and beyond what your adviors tell you to do: double check with other students that you’re talking the right classes, constantly nag your advisors to make sure that you’re taking the right classes, and talk to the dean of your school to see if everything checks out…..do anything that you have to, to make sure that you’re on the right course or it’ll come back to bite you in the ass come graduation time — it happened to me!
For some reason, there has always been this strange disconnect between the graduation office and what I was being told from my advisors, something really needs to be done in colleges to correct this problem — students are suffering. We all pay way to much money to be told to take the wrong classes only to have to pay more money to take the “right” classes.
