Networking Hubs
In a recent post about Buzz I spoke about the importance of getting the word out about your company through WOM (word of mouth) marketing. That’s very important, but you also need to know the different types of people you are spreading the word to.
In order to do that, you have to understand what a network hub is. Network hubs are individuals who communicate with more people about certain services than the average person does, some people may call them “opinion leaders.”
Regular Hubs
These are the type of people (i.e. students) who only serve as sources of information; they may only be in contact with a few other individuals and casually spread the word about your company when they feel like it.
This is the type of student that you can tell about your company and they may respond with “this is great…awesome idea,” but never really tell any one else about it either because they’re too lazy, they just don’t care enough, or they’re still high and drunk from last nights fraternity party.
Mega Hubs
These are the type of students that you really, really want to tell about your business because they have HUGE mouths (in a good way).
You know who these students are. Remember the time you told your friend not to tell any one about that girl you “accidentally” hooked-up with at that party when you “accidentally” had too much to drink? And the next day every one in school laughed as you walked (damn your friend).
Well, those are the type of students that you need to share your business (pun intended) with. Try to get them interested in your company, educate them, and let them loose! They’ll spread the word about your company like it’s their job because it’s their nature to talk and reach out to other people (I love these students).
