Buzz Buzz Buzz
You can have the best business in the world, but without enough buzz going around about your service, nothing else matters.
You need to be constantly spreading the word of your business and educating people about what you have to offer. I personally think that using WOM (word of mouth) to get your business rolling is the best way, and it’s free!
In fact, a good example of spreading the word is Hotmail. Hotmail went from 0 to 12 million subscribers in just 18 months (now that’s amazing). Hotmail used the internet to really get the buzz going by simply adding “Get your free e-mail at Hotmail.com.” at the end of every outgoing email sent. So simple, yet so powerful.
Some ways to spread the message:
1. Start a dialogue with your friends about your business and how it can help them in some way. Whenever I’m out in a social setting I’m not only there to have fun, but also to spread the word about my company. Try to help your friends in some way, and in return ask them to take a look at your website – this works.
2. Tell your professors in school about your business. Last semester I made sure to tell my professors about my business, some professors even offered to help me market my company by informing other students and faculty.
3. Post flyers around your campus and local stores. Believe it or not, many people take the time to read posted flyers and actually respond well to them. I remember doing this around my campus when I was launching my first website and students responded very positively and even offered feedback to help spread the word.
