Blog Business Plan (BBP)

So you think you have a good idea, eh? Ok, so all you need to do is write it down and wait for the millions, right? Sorry guys, we all wish it was that easy but it never is, it never is… But the first step to making those millions one day is writing down your ideas and turning those ideas into a business plan.

Now I’m not going to sit here and advise you to go all out and write one of those 30 page plans with tons of Roman numerals and those 1.2.3…. sub categories all over the place. I say keep it simple, short, and sweet.

Often, we entrepreneurs get so excited about our business ideas (myself included), that we find ourselves writing short novels instead of a concise business plan. Writing a ton of material about your ideas, goals, and visions for your company is great — that’s fine. But when you’re focusing on the actual plan of your business, you have to consolidate everything you have into a tight and focused couple of pages that really explain your business well. Unless… you create the Blog Business Plan, which I’ll explain shortly.

The true purpose of the business plan is to get people interested about your company by stating your company mission, financial goals (if you have any), what niche you want to explore, your plan on spreading your business, etc… all that good stuff. But like I said, you don’t need to go crazy.

Make sure that you’re being honest with yourself about your business, bullshit never works. Dig deep and really use all of that passion and unique understanding of your business to paint a clear picture in the minds of the investors, readers, whoever.

In this web2.0 age with the internet at our fingertips, I personally feel better writing a blog instead of a formal business plan, but that’s just me. Did you say a blog instead of a business plan? You bet I did! Why? Because if you think about it, a blog encompasses everything a typical business plan does and more: your ideas, your mission, plans for future products, and even how you plan to spread you business (well aren’t you already marketing your business via your blog, smarty!). You can edit, add more content, and update your blog anytime you want – constantly improving.

So don’t get caught up in the noise about only writing traditional business plans (like something you’ve learned in Business 101). I’m not saying don’t go that route, but also keep an open-mind to the Blog Business Plan (patent pending).

But what’s a blog?

A blog is basically an online diary of sorts. A place where you can write about anything: ideas, philosophies, plans, concerns, anything…. and share it with the world. Using a blog as a business plan never made more sense, so give it a shot, will ya?

Share what you think: make sense?
