A Job for the Entrepreneur

So you’re in college and looking for a job or maybe you recently graduated and it’s time to join the workforce (unless you’re already making some major bucks from your business). Now, what type of company should you work at? Well, as an entrepreneur you should be seeking a company that is entrepreneurial-minded.

Nowadays, you have people with English majors working on Wall Street, so don’t feel restricted from getting a certain job because you think that your degree isn’t suitable –well, in some cases it won’t be – but in the world of business you’d be surprised what jobs you can find with any degree.

Look for companies that believe in the letting their employees imagine, create, and explore all possibilities with every project and assignment. Companies that understand entrepreneurs and give them a lot of room to grow and be independent – they must respect you as an entrepreneur and not treat you like a sheep! If they don’t, then get out of there (quickly).

Please, please, please remember not to have money in the back of your mind (at least don’t it let be the only thing, ok). Your goal should to get a job that’ll benefit you experience-wise, a job where you can build a ton of contacts, really learn how to build a business, and a place where you can interact with a bunch of really successful people.

If you’re looking for a job and are only thinking about the size of the paycheck and forgetting about your future success as an entrepreneur, then get ready to stay there for 40 years and you can forget about starting a successful business one day, just wont happen buddy.

“Being comfortable” is poisonous to the entrepreneur.

Be smart. Strategically plant yourself in a pool of success and brilliance – a breeding ground for entrepreneurs. It’ll payoff, you’ll see.

Is anyone stuck in a horrible job? Let us know.

I really like all of the information you are posting here. It is really helpful to me, but i don’t know if this one will work for me. I’m only 15 years old, and the only jobs I can think of for someone my age is mcdonalds, washing dishes in the back of a restaurant and such. Do you think there would be any opportunity/job for me at an early age?

Sean:

Thanks a lot for your comment. I am very glad to see that my site is helping you. I’m impressed to see 15 year-old entrepreneurs such as yourself — keep up the good work!

About getting a job, you should start talking to your parents (and friend’s parents), teachers, and even your guidance counselors about your interest to get a job in a company that’ll help you gain experience in the business world.

Start looking for internships. You’d be surprised to see that many employers are willing to hire high school students as interns, even if it’s in the mailroom (it’s still an experience and you’d be in contact with many influential people).

Please keep me in the loop of your progress.

I too find the things you’ve posted here very interesting and motivational, David. I just wanted to tell you thanks.

I’m starting my own blog up this week. Tonight I’ll hopefully have my first post up; I believe everything else is good to go for now.

I’ll put a link to your site from mine - you really are catching a lot of the entrepreneurial flavor, and I like that!

Thanks Daniel. Stay motivated and good work with your new blog — can’t wait to see it grow. In fact, it may make a good fit for Mind Petals in the near future.
