Cashcampus Memory Lane (part 5)
So I get this call from a student reporter, Nick Reisman, from Albany Student Press. Nick tells me that he hears about cashcampus.com at his campus and he asks for an interview about me and my company – of course I accepted.
Here are a few snaps of the article, sorry that you won’t be able to make the words out that well. It basically went into how similar sites such as mine were popping up all over the place and teachers couldn’t do anything to stop them (of course that wasn’t true because ‘til this day I have never seen a site such as the original cashcampus.com…if there’s one out there somebody please show it to me), and I spoke a bit about how I was trying to make it easier for students to get the information they need… blah…blahh.. etc….

The article came out April 25, 2005, about 3 months before I decided to close down shop on cashcampus.com and to explore other ideas (I’ll explain why exactly in my last post down memory lane).
What you should learn from my experience about marketing is that if you can get into a college newspaper then your business is starting to gain traction and the word is really getting out there. That’s when the real job begins to maintain that buzz injection.
I took me about 3 months of hard advertising before my work started to payoff the way I wanted it to. Cashcampus.com was finally getting noticed and I would breathe just a bit easier.
Marketing is definitely a slow process and you just have to hang in there and keep at it no matter what. If you believe in your business and know that it can truly help people in some way, then the hard work you put into spreading your business will always bear the fruits of your labor.
But something still wasn’t right. I was really starting to doubt my business model and question the survivability of my business in the long run. I knew that I had to get back to the drawing table and really, really evaluate what I was doing and where I was going with cashcampus.com.
Stay tuned for my final post on Cashcampus Memory Lane…
