I’m Ahead of Time

I was in a train with a friend of mine yesterday afternoon and he asked me “if I didn’t feel that I was wasting my time with my company.” I responded with, “no not at all, in fact I feel that I am ahead of time.”

Everywhere I go students are asking me “what am I doing now since I graduated?” And they all expect the same answer every time which goes something like this: “Oh, I’m working for [fill in the blank] doing [fill in the blank].” So how’s it going? “It’s going great I love it. (bullshit)”

It blows my mind… when I respond with “I started my own internet business and I am working it full time.” My fellow students are not only surprised and shocked that I have strayed from the status-quo of getting a “real job” after graduating, but most of them seem quite angered by my response.

It’s like your peers will get angry at you if you deviate from the social order of getting a “real job” and working to make someone else richer the rest of your life. I can’t help but think that these same students wish that they could be able to take risks also but are too afraid to do so, so their way of letting out that fear is by getting angry at the person who has enough courage to take the risks in life.

I’m sorry, but I’m not going to apologize to the world for being an entrepreneur and willing not to follow the status-quo – not happening. If you feel angry and sad that you can’t muster up the courage to try something with your life, then the only person to blame is yourself, not the entrepreneur who is doing what he or she loves.

We have been so, so brainwashed in this society. It’s disgusting. Brainwashed and conditioned not to take risks, not to take chances, and not to stray from the herd. Well I’m straying and you can’t stop me.

So next time if you’re wondering whether or not I’m wasting time doing what I love every day, just think about what you’re doing with your life. I have some questions for you: “Do you love what you’re doing? Are you on the road to success? How does your future look? What makes you happy in life?”

I can answer all of these questions in a second… If you can’t, then I suggest you look in the mirror and ask yourself: “Are you wasting time with your life?”

This is exactly how I feel, David. I too think that our society has been brainwashed to work for a business.

Ineed it has been Sean and it I don’t think that it’s going to change anytime soon. The best bet is for people to educate themselves on what’s going on and take action to prevent their lives from falling into that trap of the status-quo.
