Try Something New
In this world there are so many people who simply just like being the same as everybody else and like doing things like everybody else. I think that it’s pretty cool to be different and try different things — separating yourself from everybody else for a change. I really think that this separation can help spark your creativity and allow you and possibly your company to standout from the crowd.
For about a month now I have been collecting Aquafina water bottles and lining them around the perimeter of my garage (my office) wall. Everyday people ask me why I don’t throw them away or recycle them, and I respond by telling them that I just like to look at them. Call me crazy, but I like doing things that make absolutely no sense sometimes. My Aquafina bottles actually are fun to look at and help me think a different way by looking at something that one wouldn’t normally observe.
Sometimes you just need to do things that you have the urge to do but you don’t because people will think that you’re silly for doing. Open you mind to being a bit weird sometimes, because weird is good and sameness is bad.
I think that as entrepreneurs, we owe it to ourselves to do things a bit different now and then. A good idea would be to start a collage of random pictures, articles, objects, anything that you can stick on a piece of cardboard paper to stare at and just think. Creating a college is not only fun, but you can potentially begin to generate ideas from trying to connect the dots of seemingly random objects – it can be like a brainteaser.
I was once told that colors spark the imagination and creativity. So for a change why not go the museum or art gallery to checkout some paintings. I like to take random trips to the Metropolitan Museum in NYC to view the galleries. I always feel quite refreshed and ready to start thinking of different business concepts after viewing all of the combinations of colors in the art.
Ok, now this may sound a bit corny, but why not try writing some poetry? I’m not a big poetry guy, but I’ve taken a few classes in college and let me tell you, I really worked my mind that semester. It wasn’t easy thinking of things to rhyme or setting up phrases that made the poem make sense, so it was definitely a good mental workout for me.
Basically what I’m saying is, try different things in life and don’t be scared to step outside your comfort zones. When you adventure into new things in life you start to think in new ways – things that can be applied to your business and ultimately help you succeed.
Share your thoughts. What weird things do you do?

I had to comment on this post.
My car is filled with empy water bottles. The whole back seat is filled to the base of the window and I’m working on the front passanger seat. So no one can really go in the car with me.
I have been working on that since September. I would just throw my empty bottles on the floor of my car and I decided to fill up the whole car.
