The Burden of the Entrepreneur

Wouldn’t it be So Easy If

“I could just continue to work at my job, make my $60,000 per year, take my yearly 2 weeks vacation, purchase my BMW, and just sit back and enjoy my life without worrying about becoming ’successful’ one day like what those entrepreneurs are trying to do. Heck, I’m already set with my sweet weekly check and raise in 5 years. Right on!”

I’m sure that many young entrepreneurs have

thought about just forgetting their entrepreneurial goals and ambitions to resort to an “easy” life of comfort and control. The life with the steady paycheck, predictable days, and the company car with the company vacations. And, maybe even a company meal here or there.

Blah..Blah…

But it’s never that easy for the hungry entrepreneur that won’t settle for less. The entrepreneur with the burden to succeed by all means necessary. The entrepreneur that says: “F$#K SAFETY! I’m going to make my own future. There has to be more to life than just working for someone for 40 years of my life. Nah dude, I’ll pass.”

Many young entrepreneurs wakeup every morning and go to work. They are sad. They are unhappy with their jobs. They want to take the step of quitting and venturing off to start a company but the fear haunts them and keeps them from leaving their corporate jobs that mom and dad are so proud of them for getting.

But for many of you, deep down inside you feel the burden.“The Burden of the Entrepreneur.” The burden to always want more out of your life. The burden not to settle for less. The burden to stake your claim in this world.

But here’s the thing:

The entrepreneurs who are going to make it, are not the ones who lock in this burden, but the one who free themselves of this burden and take a risk to just go for it! To take that necessary leap into the unknown. To do something to change your life and break the monotonous cycle of safety and comfort.

Will you free yourself?

Actually taking risk, is a normal every day thing but when we think going in to business as too BIG risk..then it will become BURDEN.

Yeah too true Dave,
I remember when I was too scared to even start Blogtrepreneur.com. But I told myself that I won’t go anywhere if I don’t take any risks and free myself from the “safety bubble” I was living in.

I think its paid off, but at the same time - like Syia said - calculating risks before you quit your full-time job is extremely important.

@syria: Well I can’t agree that taking risk is normal. It’s usually rare, I believe. Most people live a life void of risks.

@Adnan: It’s great that you broke through that fear and started something, excellent! Indeed, it’s wise to take “calculated” risk before quitting your job.

Preserve the dream at all costs…

After reading David’s post about The Burden of the Entrepreneur on Flush the Toilet, I started reminiscing. His post reads exactly like something I would have written earlier this year. I WAS that entrepreneur that said f*ck the salary and the compan….

Great post I am doing my business on the side and started a new job 2 weeks ago and guess what it still feels the same. I snooze 3-4 times a day and dread going in. I get some interesting work, but it doesn’t matter, I feel so trapped in the cube. Sitting there wondering about how my future is going to be just motivates me more to get my business going and to save as much money as possible.

Thanks for the AWESOME comments, everyone!

@Adam: Yes, what a burden it is! Looking forward to reading your article on this matter. I feel your pain, brother.

@SportsLizard (Adam): thanks for the plug, much appreciated. Glad that my article was of use to you. I’m even happier that you have freed yourself from this burden! Now the real work begins, right.

@Oaks: Thanks for your support. Yeah, I know what you mean about sleeping at work and just not caring. I just wrote this article that sums it up: http://mindpetals.com/blog/2006/10/dont-you-just-hate-the-bureaucratic-bullshit/

You have to start planning an exit strategy to free yourself from the cube or it’s going to eat you alive. Keep on working on your business so you can quit ASAP. Keep me posted on your progress.
